Philly Power Research Reports
Periodically, our team is asked to provide reports and information to social justice, grassroots groups in our region. This is what we love to do! Here are some of the reports we've produced in collaboration with various groups doing awesome work in Philadelphia. We pride ourselves on solid research done quickly and explained effectively so that information is accessible and clear.
March 2021. Revenue for a Just Recovery: As part of the Tax the Rich PHL campaign, we helped prepare a report calling for the City of Philadelphia to enact progressive strategies to tax the rich and fully fund City services during the FY22 budget cycle. In the report, we profiled some of the wealthiest Philly area individuals and corporations who have been hoarding wealth during the pandemic, while our City services and infrastructure continue to be terribly underfunded.
February 2020. The Freedom to Stay: We worked with One PA and The Center for Popular Democracy on a report examining the causes of the Philly housing crisis, its effects on Black and Brown Philadelphians, and potential solutions.
Summer/Fall 2018. The Ten-Year Tax Abatement has been getting a fair amount of coverage and attention lately, and rightfully so. Our deep dives have gone into who benefits and who doesn’t. Check out our two reports written in collaboration with local grassroots campaigns headed by Our City, Our Schools.
April 2018. Philadelphia 3.0: A Snapshot. What do cool, latte-sipping, dog-walking, bike riding urbanists have to do with the Chamber of Commerce and real estate developers? A lot, it turns out. Check out how Philadelphia's very own "grassroots" group is really a front for business-as-usual old money political influences with a fresh twist.
April 2018. Can Amazon Deliver? A Guide to HQ2 in Philly: In April 2018, Jobs with Justice and other partner organizations around the country hosted town hall discussions in the 20 cities to make the Amazon HQ2 "short list" to showcase the unfair labor and development practices of one of the wealthiest and most ruthless corporations in the world. This report was prepared to support JwJ's Philadelphia town hall.
March 2018. Our City, Our Schools Proposal for Equitable School Funding: Report on equitable funding commissioned by Our City, Our Schools in the wake of the budget proposal put forth by Mayor Kenney on 3/1/2018.
May 2017. The Record behind the Rhetoric- An in-depth look commissioned by 215 People's Alliance at the District Attorney candidates in the 2017 election, which ultimately led to the unprecedented election of progressive Larry Krasner.
April 2017. Trump Collaborators of Philly - #PhillyWeRise asked the collective to take a look at how some Philadelphia corporations and business executives are collaborating with Trump and his agenda.
